Student Employment
Avista Corp.’s Student Employment Program provides opportunities for students to enhance their field of study and to gain valuable work critical to their future success in the job market.

Who is Eligible for Student Employment?
The Student Employment Program is offered to undergraduate students (age 18 and over). All applicants must be enrolled in a college or university. Students in the summer program must have the intent of attending the fall quarter or semester.

What Kinds of Summer Jobs Are Offered?
Although the types and number of jobs will vary from year to year, the positions fall into these general categories:
  • Student Helper - grounds workers, janitorial, & warehouse
  • Meter Reader - reading gas and electric meters in the field
  • Student Clerk - typing, filing, data entry, & compiling statistics
  • Student General Technician - leak survey, cathodic protection, drafting, database assistance, data processing, accounting, programmer, fishery workers, marketing research analysts, etc. A junior or senior class student, may be assigned to technical work directly related to knowledge acquired in their major area of study.
  • Student Specialist Technician - engineering, IS, computer science, technical students. These students are regularly assigned to perform technical work directly related to knowledge acquired in their major area of study.

Where are the summer jobs located?
The majority of summer jobs will be located in Spokane, Wash. and Coeur d’Alene, Idaho. Positions may also be available in our outlying areas such as Pullman, Wash., Lewiston, Idaho, or Medford, Ore.

When can applications for summer employment be submitted?
Applications are accepted after January 1st and must be submitted no later than April 30th. Interviews and job offers begin as early as May and continue through the summer as openings become available. All applicants will be contacted by Avista Corp., either in an invitation to interview or in a notice that all positions have been filled.

What are the hours and pay for summer positions?
Summer jobs are usually 40 hours per week, Monday through Friday. Jobs continuing into the school year are on a part-time basis depending on the needs of the company. The exact hours are determined by the hiring manager and the student. Pay will vary depending on the position and the student’s experience.

How do I apply?
